Our School and grounds
The outstanding setting of Polwhele House, on the outskirts of Truro surrounded by 32 acres of gardens and woodland, is without compare in the county of Cornwall. It provides an inspirational and secure family environment for children to spend their formative early years of education.
This diagram helps you see the scope and vicinity of buldings to one another; enabling children to move safely and easily throughout their school day. Please see the captions to the side for a brief indication of the different areas and most importantly, if you are considering visiting the school, we would be delighted to show you around.
1) Main house and boarding
This building is a hive of activity. Here you will find the Headmaster's study, the school office, the Bursar's office, two fabulous dining rooms and a drawing room where we host lunchtime concerts. Not to mention the happy and homely boarding accommodation.
2) Pre-Preparatory School
A warm welcome greets you in our fantastic Pre-Prep. Housing Nursery to Year 2 the children enjoy their learning and always wear a smile.
3) Preparatory School
This is where the children in Years 3-8 spend their day. A light, spacious and modern building that is the perfect environment for learning.
4) Playing Fields
Having such vast outdoor space our playing fields are able to accommodate a variety of sporting events at the same time.
5) Tennis courts
We are lucky to have three grass tennis courts which our children put to great use. The courts are a very popular facility, particularly in the summer term when they are used for matches against other schools, coaching sessions and break time tournaments!
6) Working farm
Bordering the Polwhele House estate is a delightful farm. Many classes have visited and the animals can often be seen in the fields surrounding the estate.
7) Adventure Playground
We believe playtimes should be as much fun as possible so our children have access to a popular adventure playground and giant chess/draughts board where they can socialise with friends and enjoy everything our grounds have to offer.
8) Riding School
This is where our five ponies - Arnold, Polly, Missy, Harry and Bruce - are stabled, where the annual gymkhanas are held, the beginning of the enchanting trails through the woods and where our children begin their riding 'experience'.
9) Walled garden
This is a magical haven where amazing things happen right in the centre of the school site. All classes are welcome to use the walled garden and it is a popular location for after school clubs too!
